M Emery is the creator of bi-monthly one man anthology comic, Pay Through the Soul, as well as the cartoon strip collection The Guzomo Show for Black House Comics.

Long Bio

New Zealand cartoonist M Emery has been drawing comics since he was a wee lad. In 2007 he produced an online collection of strips strips at www.guzumocomics.com. Creating work firmly in the realm of absurd humour for mature readers, M Emery has only been arrested once and removed from one comics convention during the course of his cartooning career. After years of sporadic releases in New Zealand, Black House Comics published a 120 page selection of strips, The Guzumo Show, in early 2011. The first issue of M Emery's one man anthology, Pay Through The Soul, was released in late 2011 and he hopes to continue putting out issues on a bi-monthly basis. As well as producing his own work, M Emery is passionate about the history of Australian and New Zealand cartooning and writes regularly on the subject at pikitiapress.blogspot.com

Jason Fischer

Jason Fischer is the Adelaide-based author of several instalments in the After the World zombie fiction series, and the serial novel Tusk (Terra Magazine). He can be found online at www.jasonfischer.com.au

Long Bio

Jason Fischer lives near Adelaide, South Australia, with his wife and son. He tries to unleash the weird every time he gets behind the keyboard, and his fiction has been described by reviewers as “strikingly original” and “weirdly imaginative”, while noted for containing “greasier genre elements”. Jason attended the Clarion South Writers Workshop in 2007, and has been short-listed in the Aurealis Awards, the Ditmar Awards, and the Australian Shadows Awards. He won the 2009 Australian Horror Writing Awards (AHWA) Short Story and the 2010 AHWA Flash Fiction Competitions, and is a winner of the Writers of the Future contest. He is the author of over thirty short stories, with his first collection appearing soon from Ticonderoga Publications. Jason Franks writes comics, prose and source code. He is the author of the graphic novels The Sixsmiths (SLG, 2010) and McBlack (Black House Comics, 2012), as well as numerous short stories in prose and comics. His first novel, Bloody Waters, will be published in 2012. Franks is the editor of the new upcoming comics magazineTerra for Black House Comics. Franks has lived in South Africa, the USA and Japan. Paul Mason is the creator/writer/artist on The Soldier Legacy for Black House Comics, and is studying a Doctorate of Visual Arts, focusing on comic books. Website: www.pm-comic.blogspot.com/

Long Bio

Paul Mason attained a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in Fine Arts at the University of Newcastle, followed by a Bachelor of Animation with First Class Honours at the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University. Paul developed The Soldier Legacy #1 comic book during his final year, which he went on to self-publish in 2010.  After being recommended by QCA to return to study a Doctorate in Visual Arts, and being awarded a scholarship in mid 2011, Paul continues to develop the Soldier Legacy, which is now published by Black House Comics. In late 2011, the series featured as part of a nationally televised commercial campaign for Youi Insurance. Comic-book pages from the series also featured in a Griffith University art exhibition in Gympie Regional Gallery, plus were short-listed and on display at the 5th Jilin International Animation and Comics exhibition in China 2011. Paul was also featured as the Australian Society of Authors (ASA) “Comics Creator of the Month” for ecember 2011. In addition, he has illustrated a pinup for the Supanova Tides of Hope anthology, and is currently illustrating and co-plotting a serialised cross-over story within the pages of Dark Detective: Sherlock Holmes.

Bruce Mutard

Short Bio

Bruce Mutard is the author of the graphic novels, The Sacrifice and The Silence for Allen & Unwin, A Mind Of Lovefor Black House Comics, and The Bunker for Image Comics. He is also studying a Master of Design at Monash University in Writing with Images. 

Long Bio

Bruce Mutard is one of Australia’s most accomplished graphic novelists. He has been writing and drawing comics for 20 years, and has had five graphic novels published: The Sacrifice (Allen & Unwin, 2008), The Silence (Allen & Unwin, 2009), A Mind of Love (Black House Comics, 2011), The Bunker (Image Comics, 2003) and Stripshow (Milk Shadow Books, 2012). He also has had short stories in Overland, Meanjin, The Australian Book Review andTango among others, and has illustrated several books for Macmillan Educations’ Stories From Australia’s History, series. He is currently working on the follow-up to The Sacrifice and is also finishing his Masters. He recently returned from Italy where he studied how the comics medium appears in religious Renaissance frescos. This academic project will culminate in an exhibition of his graphic narrative artwork in a Melbourne art gallery in 2013.

Jason Paulos debuted on the Sydney comics scene in 1989 with the first self published issue of Hairbutt The Hippo, the story of a hard-boiled anthropomorphic private eye roaming the seedy underbelly of a futuristic city. Since then, Jason has regularly contributed to Australian MAD magazine (over 100 pages of Hairbutt strips), a five page Green Lantern story for the Bizarro Comics Book 2 for DC Comics, a 16 page horror story called “Easy Prey” for the Judge Dredd Megazine, EEEK! Volume 1 published by Asylum Press, and a dozen Hairbutt comics. He is now writing and drawing the second volume of EEEK!, which will be published by Black House Comics in 2012.  J Scherpenhuizen is an editor, novelist and publisher and the creator, author and illustrator of the six issue comic book series, The Twilight Age, from Black House Comics. Jan also provided layouts for The Dark Detective Sherlock Holmes #1. His illustrations have appeared in and on Mr Blood, The Glowing Man and Bold Action and Pulse of Darkness. Jan has worked as a penciller with Michael Dutkiewicz on Wolverine Doombringer and Lost in Space. He also provided the art for The Watch #3 and #4. His most recent work in American comics was inking Chew Chan’s pencils on issue #2 of the Buckeroo Banzai mini series. His work has also appeared in Kagemono and Tides of Hope. Christopher Sequeira is a writer who has authored articles, short stories, comic-book scripts and other material, particularly in the popular genres of mystery, supernatural, horror, science fiction and super-heroes. He has created original Australian characters that have appeared in comics distributed nationally (Rattlebone, Pulse of Darkness, Mister Blood, The Borderlander), and has written for overseas publishers such as DC Comics (Justice League Adventures) and Marvel Entertainment (Iron Man, X-Men). His current, full-colour, bi-monthly series The Dark Detective: Sherlock Holmes is currently receiving rave reviews and is on sale thoughout Australia. Sequeira has two new forthcoming series for Black House Comics—the geo-political superhero series The Hyper Resolution in the Parahuman anthology, and the neo-gothic chiller The Catamorph, which will appear in Terra Magazine.
